Sankar Foundation introduces advanced glaucoma surgery
Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital has introduced minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) with the successful implantation of a Hydrus® Microstent, marking a significant advancement in glaucoma treatment in the region.
The procedure was performed on August 31 by the hospital’s glaucoma team, led by Dr. T. Raveendra, with Dr. K. Manjuvalli and Dr. B. Keerthana assisting.
The Hydrus Microstent is designed to improve the drainage of aqueous humour through Schlemm’s canal, helping to lower intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. As a minimally invasive procedure, MIGS involves less surgical trauma and is associated with a faster recovery compared with conventional glaucoma surgery.
The hospital said the introduction of the technology would broaden its treatment options for patients requiring advanced glaucoma care.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees M. Ramdas and Managing Trustee and CEO A. Krishna Kumar congratulated the medical team and said the new technology was in keeping with the institution’s commitment to clinical excellence and newer treatment modalities in ophthalmic care.
Sankar Foundation Deputy General Manager (PR, Liaison and Corporate Relations) K. Bangar Raju said the procedure marked an important step towards expanding access to advanced glaucoma care in the region.
He said the introduction of the Hydrus Microstent was part of the foundation’s efforts to bring advanced ophthalmic technologies and newer treatment options to patients across Andhra Pradesh.
