Nationwide portal for radiologists to be launched soon: MP Sabari Byreddy

A national online registration system for radiologists will soon be introduced to improve coordination and transparency across the profession.

Member of Parliament and radiologist Dr. Sabari Byreddy announced the initiative while inaugurating the Andhra Pradesh State Conference of the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) at the Yellapragada Subbarao Auditorium, GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR), in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

More than 600 radiologists from across the state are attending the three-day AP IRIA Conference 2025. The inaugural session featured Dr. Mukkamala Apparao, Managing Trustee of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, and Dr. D. Srihari Rao, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council.

Dr. Byreddy commended the organisers for creating a platform that promotes learning and collaboration. He said such conferences help professionals stay updated with emerging technologies and enhance patient care.

Dr. Apparao encouraged practitioners to use artificial and augmented intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy while keeping human expertise at the core. Dr. Gitanjali Batmanabane, Pro Vice-Chancellor of GIMSR, highlighted the growing importance of simulation-based learning in developing clinical skills.

Several professionals were honoured during the event.

  1. Raju Sharma (AIIMS, New Delhi) received the Kakarla Subba Rao Gold Medal.
  2. A.Y. Lakshmi (SVIMS, Tirupati) received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
  3. K. Sushen Kumar earned the Dr. G.V. Mohan Prasad Gold Medal for Best Young Achiever.
  4. V.N. Varaprasad (Vijayawada) was felicitated for being elected President of the Asian Musculoskeletal Society.

The conference is led by Dr. V. Suresh, President of AP IRIA, and Dr. Umamaheswara Reddy, Secretary. It continues through the weekend with expert talks, academic sessions, and paper presentations on innovation in medical imaging.
