Roshni Korati takes charge as VPA Deputy Chairperson
Roshni Aparanji Korati assumed charge as the Deputy Chairperson of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Monday. She became the first woman to hold the post of an IAS officer.
A 2011-batch officer of the Assam–Meghalaya cadre, Ms. Korati completed her education in Visakhapatnam. Her appointment holds special significance as her father served as headmaster of the Visakhapatnam Port High School. She has now taken charge of the same organisation, marking a notable personal milestone.
Born on April 3, 1984, Ms. Korati is a gold medallist in Mass Communication from Andhra University. She brings wide administrative experience across the district, State, and central levels.
She began her senior administrative career as Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat. She later served as Collector and District Magistrate of Jorhat and Dhemaji districts in Assam. During her tenure, she led several rural development and welfare programmes.
At the State level, she served as Secretary to the Government of Assam in key departments. These included Elementary Education, where she also worked as Mission Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. She later held charge as Agriculture Secretary and Project Director of the Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Services (ARIAS) Society.
Before joining the Visakhapatnam Port Authority, Ms. Korati served on Central deputation as Joint Development Commissioner of the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone.
She received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2018, along with several other honours. She is widely recognised for her effective leadership and commitment to public service.
