Srikakulam seeks extension of metro rail to Bhogapuram airport
Air Travellers Association, Srikakulam chapter president Natukula Mohan, on Monday, appealed to the government to extend the proposed metro rail connectivity up to Srikakulam to improve travel between the district and Visakhapatnam via the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport.
He said the metro rail corridor proposed between Anakapalli and the airport could be extended to Srikakulam, which is located about 45 km from the Bhogapuram airport region. The move would significantly reduce travel time for air passengers from north Andhra Pradesh and improve access to both domestic and international flights, he added.
Speaking to The Coastal Times, Mr Mohan said enhanced metro connectivity would boost economic activity along the Bhogapuram–Srikakulam stretch of National Highway 16. He said better transport infrastructure would attract investments in logistics, tourism, and allied sectors, while also benefiting daily commuters and students.
Mr Mohan submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, K. Rammohan Naidu, outlining the long-term benefits of the proposal. The Union Minister assured him that the matter would be taken up with the concerned authorities and that efforts would be made to examine the feasibility of extending the metro rail project for the benefit of air passengers and the general public.
