Visakhapatnam prepares action plan for Census-2027: Collector
District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad on Tuesday said Visakhapatnam district is ready with special action plans to conduct the Census–2027 exercise transparently and efficiently.
He said this after In-charge Chief Secretary K.S.S. Rawat held a video conference review meeting from Amaravati with district collectors across Andhra Pradesh to assess preparedness.
The Chief Secretary said the census operations may continue for six months to a year and asked officials to handle the exercise systematically. He instructed that the entire process should be paperless and carried out through a digital app.
Officials said the census would be conducted in two phases — House Listing and Housing Census, followed by Population Enumeration. Census Director J. Nivas briefed officials on procedures, responsibilities, and rules through a PowerPoint presentation.
Collector Harendhira Prasad said the District Collector will serve as District Census Officer, while Tahsildars will act as Additional Census Officers. Within GVMC limits, the GVMC Commissioner has been appointed Principal Officer, and ZDCs will function as In-Charge Census Officers.
He added that coordination among departments is being strengthened, and implementation plans are being put in place to ensure smooth and transparent conduct of the census. Officials from various departments participated in the meeting.
