IAS Trainees Get First-hand Exposure to Visakhapatnam Port Operations

A group of IAS officer trainees from the 2025 batch visited the Visakhapatnam Port Authority on Monday, February 9, as part of their Winter Study Tour.

Officials of the Port Authority briefed the trainees on the port’s infrastructure and operational capabilities. “The focus was on cargo handling capacity, ongoing modernisation and mechanisation initiatives, and the role of covered storage facilities in improving efficiency,” a senior official said.

The officers were also informed about the port’s sustainability initiatives. “The port has been actively investing in renewable energy through its solar power plant and in sustainable water management by using treated water from the sewage treatment plant for industrial purposes,” an official explained.

According to officials, the interaction covered investment potential in the region and recently developed facilities such as the international cruise terminal and the truck parking terminal. “These facilities are expected to strengthen logistics support and enhance import and export operations,” the official added.

The visiting trainees thanked the Port Authority management for the interaction, stating that the session provided “valuable insights into port operations and services.” Heads of departments and senior officers of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority attended the programme.
