APEPDCL launches demand response programme
Chairman and Managing Director Prudhvitej Immadi has announced the launch of the “Energy and Cost Savings – Demand Response” programme by the Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APEPDCL).
APEPDCL is implementing the programme in collaboration with Elements Energy, a startup incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. Officials said the initiative builds on the recent rollout of smart meters across the utility’s service area.
To raise awareness, APEPDCL organised a workshop at its Corporate Office. Director (Operations) T.V. Surya Prakash, Elements Energy Founder Anson Sando, and senior officials attended.
The programme targets government, industrial, commercial, and residential consumers. It encourages them to reduce electricity use during peak tariff hours. It also promotes shifting demand to off-peak or normal tariff periods.
As a result, consumers can potentially lower their electricity bills. At the same time, APEPDCL expects improved operational efficiency. In addition, the utility anticipates improved grid management and greater integration of renewable energy.
During the workshop, officials explained the programme structure and strategy. They also outlined the expected benefits for industrial and commercial consumers.
APEPDCL officials said the initiative seeks to enhance transparency and efficiency in electricity consumption. They added that it could support the expansion of smart grid systems in the future.
Industrial and commercial consumers interested in participating may contact S. Rajababu, Chief General Manager (Commercial), APEPDCL, for details.
