Sharmila slams ‘attacks’ on Congress offices
Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y. S. Sharmila on Saturday condemned the alleged attacks on Congress offices at multiple locations across the State, blaming activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
In a post on X, she accused the BJP of fostering a culture of violence. “The BJP has become synonymous with violence. An incident in Delhi cannot justify attacks on party offices in Andhra Pradesh. What kind of democracy is this?” she asked.
Calling the incidents “cowardly acts,” Sharmila alleged that BJP workers deliberately targeted Congress offices. She described the attacks as a direct blow to democratic values and political dissent.
“We strongly condemn this misconduct,” she said. “The BJP will have to answer for these actions in the people’s court.”
Sharmila further charged the BJP with suppressing the right to question. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s RSS-style rule, dissent is being treated like a crime,” she said. “Targeting the Opposition damages the nation’s reputation.”
She urged Congress cadres to remain calm but firm. “Peacefully resist the actions of religious extremists,” she appealed.
There was no immediate response from BJP leaders on the allegations.
