509 Athletes Compete at AU National Physique Championship
Andhra University on Tuesday hosted the All India Inter-University Best Physique Championship, drawing 509 athletes from 115 universities across India. The event was organised as part of the university’s centenary celebrations.
Arjuna Awardee Neelamsetti Lakshmi attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest and formally inaugurated the championship. Speaking on the occasion, she expressed her happiness at Andhra University hosting a national-level sporting event of such significance and urged participants to showcase their full potential.
Andhra University Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.P. Rajasekhar said that the centenary celebrations have included a series of sports and cultural programmes. “Physical fitness is vital, but mental strength is equally important,” he noted, highlighting the holistic approach of the university’s initiatives.
AU Director of Physical Education Mr. Vijayamohan added that, apart from the athletes, 155 team managers and coaches from different universities were present, reflecting the event’s scale and national reach.
During the programme, Ms. Lakshmi was felicitated for her achievements and contributions to Indian sports. The championship featured multiple categories, with participants judged on physique, posture, and overall presentation.
The event underscored Andhra University’s commitment to promoting sports at the national level while celebrating its centenary milestone.
