GVMC tightens sanitation monitoring, orders strict compliance

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg on Thursday directed officials to ensure strict adherence to sanitation schedules and improve accountability among field staff to maintain daily city cleanliness.

During a field inspection in Ward 21 of the East Zone, particularly in the Old CBI Down area, Mr. Garg reviewed sanitation works along with East Zone Zonal Commissioner K. Shivaprasad.

He said sanitation workers play a key role in maintaining urban hygiene and instructed officials to ensure their timely attendance and deployment every day. Assistant Medical Officers, Sanitary Inspectors and Sanitary Secretaries should closely monitor attendance and ensure proper field-level supervision, he said.

The Commissioner also asked officials to sensitise sanitation workers about garbage vulnerable points to help them better identify and manage waste-prone locations in the city.

He directed that immediate action be taken against those dumping waste in open areas. Construction and demolition waste found on roads and in public places should be cleared without delay through ward secretariat planning staff, he said, adding that penalties must be imposed on violators.

Mr. Garg also inspected CLAP garbage collection vehicles and interacted with residents to verify the regularity of door-to-door waste collection. He later stopped a CLAP vehicle and expressed displeasure over the non-use of the whistle system and public address system provided for awareness purposes.

He instructed that the microphone system must be used mandatorily during door-to-door garbage collection to improve public communication and awareness.

GVMC Assistant Medical Officer B. Prasad Rao, Sanitary Inspector Govindarao and ward secretariat staff accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
