AU marks centenary with stunning “AU@100” human formation
Andhra University on Friday morning transformed its Golden Jubilee Grounds into a striking visual display as hundreds of students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff came together to form the “AU@100” human spell-out, marking the institution’s centenary celebrations.
As part of the event, organisers arranged participants in colour-coded groups reflecting the hues of the national flag. They coordinated the formation carefully and executed synchronised movements while drones captured the aerial visuals from above.
Vice-Chancellor G.P. Raja Sekhar said the initiative reflected unity and collective spirit across the campus. “As part of Andhra University’s 100-year celebrations, we created the AU@100 human formation with the active participation of students, faculty, and staff. This unique effort strengthens bonding and fosters a shared identity across the university,” he said.
The Department of Physical Education supervised the programme. The administration constituted a dedicated committee on the Vice-Chancellor’s instructions to plan and execute the event. Professors S. Paul Douglas, A. Pallavi, N.M. Yugandhar and Ch.A.I. Raju coordinated the exercise and mobilised participation from across departments.
Meanwhile, participants described the experience as memorable. Elizabeth Jose, a Marine Engineering student, said she enjoyed taking part in the initiative. “I wore a green T-shirt and performed coordinated movements as the drone flew overhead. This is my second event in the centenary celebrations, and I really enjoyed it,” she said.
In addition, faculty members involved in planning highlighted the extensive preparation behind the programme. Solomon Benny Nadigotla, Head of the Department of English, said the team prepared for several months and conducted rehearsals for four days before the event. “It required detailed planning and teamwork, and we feel very satisfied with the outcome,” he said.
Overall, the “AU@100” formation forms part of a series of centenary events planned by the university to bring together different sections of the campus community through cultural and symbolic celebrations.
