Bhogapuram Airport Connectivity Gets a Boost with Ten New Road Links
District authorities in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalle are finalising junction locations for ten additional roads to be connected to National Highway 16, aimed at improving access to the upcoming Bhogapuram Greenfield International Airport. Officials said the alignment points for these linkages are expected to be confirmed shortly.
Seven roads connecting to NH 16 are already under construction or being widened on a priority basis. A six-lane beach corridor road is also proposed as part of the broader connectivity plan.
The ten roads, once completed, are expected to reduce travel time to the airport to under one hour. “All these roads would ease out the traffic woes for the air travellers,” a senior district official said.
Commuters from Anakapalle, some 77 km away, currently take close to two hours, despite the six-lane Anakapalle–Anandapuram Highway. From Visakhapatnam city, 46 km distant, the journey takes approximately ninety minutes, while those travelling from Gajuwaka, around 63 km away, require up to one hour and forty minutes.
The airport, formally named after revolutionary leader Alluri Sitarama Raju, is scheduled to begin operations in July. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the Google Data Centre on April 28, announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the facility.
To complement the infrastructure push, the State government is also planning to deploy approximately 100 air-conditioned buses, predominantly electric, in a phased manner. The buses will operate in alignment with flight schedules. Bus depots for electric vehicles are being developed at Gajuwaka and Simhachalam in the port city.
