Jana Sena leader seeks extension for objections on GVMC ward redivision

GVMC Ward Redivision: Jana Sena Leader Seeks Extension for Objections

Former Jana Sena corporator Peethala Murthy Yadav has urged the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation to extend the deadline for submitting objections and suggestions on the draft proposal to increase the number of wards from 98 to 120 and undertake ward redivision.

In a representation submitted to the GVMC Commissioner, Mr. Murthy Yadav said the seven-day period provided for objections was inadequate for such a major administrative exercise. He said the process lacked sufficient public awareness and transparency.

He alleged that the public had not been properly informed about the criteria adopted for redivision, the population basis, and the method used for determining ward boundaries. Referring to reports that the exercise was based on the 2011 Census with an estimated population of around 15,840 persons per ward, he said revised ward maps and related details had not been made accessible to the public.

Mr. Murthy Yadav said meaningful public participation would not be possible without local-level consultations. He suggested that Ward Secretariats be utilised as awareness centres to explain the proposed boundary changes and clarify public doubts.

He also urged the civic body to publish the existing and proposed ward maps through Ward Secretariats and conduct ward-level awareness meetings to explain the changes and ward-wise population details to citizens.

The Jana Sena leader further sought additional time for the public to study the proposals and submit objections and suggestions before the ward boundaries are finalised.
