Centre, AIIMS join hands to tackle Uddanam kidney disease crisis

The Centre and the Andhra Pradesh government have initiated fresh efforts to find a permanent solution to the chronic kidney disease crisis in the Uddanam region of Srikakulam district.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on Tuesday held discussions in New Delhi with AIIMS Director and NITI Aayog member Dr. M. Srinivas on the growing health concerns in the region and the measures required to address them.

According to official sources, the meeting focused on the causes behind the increasing incidence of kidney ailments in Uddanam, the scientific evidence available so far, and the need for advanced medical interventions and preventive healthcare measures.

The minister briefed Dr. Srinivas on the initiatives being taken by the coalition government for the welfare of kidney patients and explained the facilities currently available at the Kidney Research Centre and Super Specialty Hospital in Palasa, including upgraded dialysis and specialised treatment services.

Both sides agreed on the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and AIIMS to provide better and internationally comparable healthcare services to patients affected by chronic kidney disease in the region.

Ram Mohan Naidu also invited the AIIMS Director to visit Uddanam shortly to assess the ground situation and interact with patients and healthcare officials. The proposed visit is expected to help in formulating further medical recommendations and long-term policy measures to address the health crisis.
