Minister Nara Lokesh invites AirTrunk to expand in Visakhapatnam

Andhra Pradesh Minister for IT and Electronics Nara Lokesh met AirTrunk Chief Executive Officer Robin Khuda in Mumbai on Monday and invited the global hyperscale data centre operator to consider Visakhapatnam for its future expansion plans in India.

According to an official release, the discussions centred on opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, hyperscale data centres and Andhra Pradesh’s efforts to position itself as a preferred destination for digital infrastructure investments.

Mr. Lokesh said Visakhapatnam was emerging as an AI and data infrastructure hub, with several major projects, including Google’s AI Hub, Reliance’s AI Data Centre and AdaniConneX facilities, currently under development. He said the State government had set a target of developing 6 GW of data centre capacity in the city and was working towards creating a comprehensive ecosystem for AI and digital infrastructure.

The Minister highlighted the availability of connectivity, infrastructure and renewable energy resources in the State, and urged AirTrunk to explore investment opportunities in Andhra Pradesh. He also proposed the establishment of an AirTrunk future campus in Visakhapatnam.

AirTrunk operates hyperscale data centres across the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore, and has also expanded into markets in the Middle East.

During the meeting, Mr. Khuda outlined the company’s India strategy, including the integration of Lumina CloudInfra following its acquisition, planned investments and expansion roadmap, according to the release. He assured the Andhra Pradesh government that the company’s leadership would examine the proposals presented during the discussions.

The release said Mr. Lokesh had first met Mr. Khuda during Mr. Lokesh’s visit to Australia in October last year, where he had presented Andhra Pradesh’s vision of becoming a leading AI and hyperscale data centre hub. Since then, AirTrunk representatives have held a series of discussions with senior State government officials regarding opportunities in India.

AirTrunk formally entered the Indian market in April 2026 through the acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, a data centre platform backed by Blackstone. The acquisition included projects in Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad, along with a planned capacity pipeline of around 600 MW.

The company has identified India as a key growth market under its Asia-Pacific expansion strategy, the release added.
