Parliamentary exchanges strengthening India–Norway ties: Sribharat
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat has said that parliamentary exchange programmes are playing a key role in deepening bilateral relations between India and Norway.
He was part of an Indian parliamentary delegation on the India–Norway Knowledge Exchange Tour in Oslo. On the second day of the visit, the delegation participated in a series of engagements, including a visit to the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting.
During the visit, Mr. Sribharat interacted with former Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg. He said the discussions focused on democratic governance, parliamentary practices, and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The delegation also held meetings with members of the Norwegian Parliament and representatives of the Standing Committee on Family and Cultural Affairs. Mr. Sribharat said the interactions provided valuable insights into Norway’s legislative and administrative frameworks. The delegation also observed parliamentary proceedings from the public gallery during a guided tour of the Storting.
Discussions during the visit covered the implementation of the India–European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement, as well as investment opportunities, maritime trade, and technological collaboration.
Mr. Sribharat noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Norway has added momentum to bilateral relations and signalled a new phase of cooperation between the two countries.
He also met parliamentarians of Indian origin, including Himanshu Gulati, and exchanged views on matters of shared interest. He said the increasing representation of people of Indian origin in Norway’s political system reflects strong people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Mr. Sribharat said the knowledge exchange programme offers a platform to explore cooperation in governance, innovation, technology, trade, education, and sustainable development, while also strengthening mutual understanding of democratic systems.
