CARE Hospitals Vizag sets robotic knee surgery benchmark

CARE Hospitals, Health City, has achieved a landmark in orthopaedic medicine, completing 500 robotic knee replacement surgeries within a single year — a feat that cements its stature as the region’s foremost centre for advanced joint care.

The hospital credited robotic-assisted technology for sharper surgical precision, better implant alignment, and faster patient recovery. The numbers also signal a surge in patient willingness to opt for minimally invasive, technology-driven procedures over conventional surgery.

In a further first, CARE Hospitals has become the first facility in Andhra Pradesh to introduce the Medial Stabilised (Medial Pivot) Knee Design — an advanced implant engineered to deliver greater joint stability and a more natural range of motion post-surgery.

Dr Ravi Chandra Vattipalli, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chief Robotic Knee Replacement Surgeon at the hospital, said robotic technology had fundamentally changed how knee replacements are performed. “It enables far greater accuracy and consistency in outcomes, giving patients significantly better results than traditional approaches,” he said.

G. Sukesh Reddy, Chief Operating Officer, said the milestone was a testament to the institution’s commitment to world-class, patient-centric care. He added that the hospital would continue to invest in cutting-edge technology and clinical expertise to address the rapidly growing demand for joint replacement procedures across the region.

Doctors at the hospital also noted a steady increase in knee disorders, particularly osteoarthritis, driven by factors such as ageing, sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and physically strenuous occupations. They urged patients not to dismiss persistent knee pain and called for early medical consultation, weight management, and regular physiotherapy to slow the progression of the disease and enhance quality of life.
