SCR GM reviews monsoon preparedness at waterlogging-prone subways
South Coast Railway (SCR) General Manager Sandeep Mathur on Thursday inspected two monsoon-vulnerable Limited Height Subways (LHSs) in the Visakhapatnam Division and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted operation of dewatering systems and swift clearance of waterlogging to safeguard public access during the rainy season.
Accompanied by Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra, Principal Chief Engineer B.S.K. Rajkumar, and other senior officials, Mr. Mathur visited the LHS between Pendurti and Simhachalam North (Km 865/01-03) and another between Gopalapatnam and Visakhapatnam (Km 875/10-12), both identified as prone to water accumulation during heavy rain.
The General Manager assessed the preparedness of railway officials by reviewing the operational readiness of diesel and electric pumps, sump arrangements, natural drainage systems, CCTV surveillance, covered pump sheds, and cross-drainage facilities. He also inspected safety measures, including safety chains, stop boards, and speed breakers installed at the subways.
Mr. Mathur instructed officials to keep dewatering equipment functional throughout the monsoon and ensure that accumulated water was removed promptly to restore access for road users. He also directed them to closely monitor weather forecasts, position field staff at vulnerable locations during periods of heavy rainfall, and maintain coordination among the engineering, electrical, and operating departments for a quick response to waterlogging, according to a railway release.
