Vizag on Alert, No Covid Cases: DM&HO
The district health authorities have stepped up precautionary measures following reports of COVID-19 deaths in Kadapa district and the emergence of COVID-like symptoms among a few individuals. Officials, however, have clarified that there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases in Visakhapatnam district and that the situation remains under control.
To strengthen preparedness, the District Medical and Health Department has ensured the availability of Rapid Diagnostic (RD) kits and adequate stocks of essential medicines at government hospitals and primary health centres across the district. A dedicated COVID-19 ward has also been readied in the CSR Block of King George Hospital (KGH) to provide immediate care if any cases are reported.
District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) P. Jagadeeswara Rao said the district administration has taken all necessary precautionary measures to respond promptly to any eventuality. He emphasised that the COVID-19 ward has been established solely as a preventive measure and does not indicate the presence of infections in the district.
“There are no active COVID-19 cases in Visakhapatnam district. The ward has been kept ready only as a precaution, and there is no need for the public to panic,” he said.
The DM&HO said all government healthcare institutions have been instructed to remain vigilant and maintain adequate stocks of medicines and diagnostic kits. Surveillance has also been intensified to monitor cases of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), enabling early detection and timely intervention, if required.
He urged the public to continue practising good personal hygiene, cover their mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, and seek medical attention if they experience persistent fever, cough, or breathing difficulties. He also advised people to rely only on official information issued by the health department and avoid spreading unverified rumours.
Health officials reiterated that the district administration is fully prepared to deal with any situation and will continue to closely monitor developments to ensure a swift and effective response if required.
