GVMC Commissioner advocates cycling to curb pollution

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg on Monday urged citizens to adopt cycling to reduce air pollution, conserve fuel, and promote a healthy lifestyle.

To promote the initiative, Mr. Garg cycled from his official residence to the GVMC headquarters. Several civic officials and employees also rode bicycles to work in support of the campaign.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Garg urged GVMC officials and employees to commute by bicycle every Monday, wherever feasible. He said cycling improves physical fitness, strengthens cardiovascular health, enhances mental well-being, and helps prevent lifestyle-related ailments, including obesity.

He said reduced dependence on motor vehicles would lower air pollution and conserve fuel, and urged citizens to make cycling a regular habit as part of their contribution to environmental protection.

The Commissioner also appealed to government and private offices, educational institutions, and voluntary organisations to observe every Monday as ‘Cycling Day’ to encourage wider adoption of cycling.

Calling for collective efforts towards the ‘Green Vizag, Healthy Vizag’ initiative, Mr. Garg urged citizens to spread the message, “Let’s control pollution. Let’s use bicycles,” and contribute to building a cleaner, greener, and pollution-free Visakhapatnam.
