GVMC bags Operation Clean Sweep Award under Swarna Andhra programme
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has won the Operation Clean Sweep Award for its performance under the State government’s Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra initiative.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu presented the award to GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg during the 18th edition of the Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra programme, held at NTR Stadium in Gudivada, Krishna district, on Saturday. GVMC was adjudged the best-performing urban local body in the category of cities with a population of three lakh to 10 lakh.
In a statement issued here, Mr. Garg said the award recognised the civic body’s effective implementation of the Operation Clean Sweep campaign across the city during June, in accordance with the guidelines of the Swachh Andhra Corporation.
As part of the campaign, GVMC conducted weekly theme-based sanitation drives, encouraged public participation in cleanliness initiatives, and ensured coordination among various departments, he said.
Mr. Garg attributed the recognition to the collective efforts of residents, public representatives, Resident Welfare Associations, voluntary organisations, sanitation workers, officials of the Swachh Andhra Corporation, and GVMC employees. He thanked all stakeholders for their contribution to the achievement.
