UBMC builds network of 1,000 biomedical volunteers in 55 countries
Universal BioMed Cross (UBMC), a global biomedical emergency response initiative established by the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), has built a network of more than 1,000 biomedical volunteers across 55 countries within a year of its launch.
The milestone was announced during the organisation’s first Foundation Day celebrations held here on Friday. On the occasion, UBMC flagged off biomedical rescue kits as part of its first international humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting healthcare services during disasters and emergencies.
According to UBMC, hospitals affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises often face disruption of essential medical equipment in addition to shortages of healthcare personnel. The initiative seeks to address this challenge by building a global network of biomedical and clinical engineering professionals to help keep critical medical equipment operational during emergencies.
Addressing the gathering, AMTZ Managing Director and Founder Chief Executive Officer Jitendra Sharma said strengthening healthcare resilience requires not only trained professionals but also reliable medical technologies. He said the initiative reflected India’s growing role in supporting global humanitarian healthcare through biomedical expertise.
UBMC Chief Operating Officer Sruthi Kishore said the organisation had grown into a worldwide network of biomedical professionals committed to ensuring that critical medical equipment remains functional during emergencies.
The Foundation Day programme also featured technical sessions on biomedical equipment maintenance, calibration, healthcare quality, post-market surveillance and risk management. Speakers highlighted the importance of equipment reliability and regulatory compliance in improving patient safety and strengthening emergency preparedness.
UBMC said it would focus on expanding its global volunteer network, strengthening international collaborations and enhancing biomedical emergency preparedness in the coming year.
