GVMC Launches Dial-A-Tanker Service

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has stepped up efforts on a war footing to tackle the ongoing drinking water scarcity in several parts of the city by introducing a series of measures, including the launch of its ‘Dial-A-Tanker’ service.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the new service was introduced to ensure faster, more transparent and convenient delivery of drinking water to residents. He said the initiative received an encouraging response on its inaugural day, with around 245 tanker bookings registered at the GVMC City Operations Centre (COC) by 7 p.m.

The Commissioner said the civic body would soon launch an online tanker booking facility through the GVMC Citizen Portal. The system will enable residents to book tankers online, make payments, obtain a booking reference number and track the status of their requests without having to visit GVMC offices.

Mr. Garg said all tanker requests would be processed strictly on a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) basis to ensure fairness and equal priority for all applicants.

To ensure smooth implementation, the corporation has deployed Executive Engineers, Deputy Executive Engineers and Assistant Engineers for continuous field-level supervision across 11 identified water-scarce areas. The COC has also introduced a mapping system linking designated water-filling points with supply locations to improve the efficiency and speed of tanker deployment.

Appealing to the public to cooperate during the water shortage, the Commissioner urged citizens to make optimum use of the ‘Dial-A-Tanker’ service, use water judiciously and support the corporation’s efforts to manage the crisis. He reiterated that GVMC remains committed to strengthening the city’s water supply system through technology-driven and transparent service delivery.
