Justice Lisa Gill inaugurates new infrastructure at DSNLU
Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice and Damodaram Sanjeevaiah National Law University (DSNLU) Chancellor Justice Lisa Gill inaugurated a newly constructed girls’ hostel and two conference halls at the university campus here on Saturday.
Justice Gill also visited various academic departments, observed classroom sessions and interacted with students.
Addressing the students, she advised them to set clear goals early in their academic journey and work consistently towards achieving them. She also welcomed the strong representation of women among the student community on the campus.
Responding to questions on the representation of women in the legal profession, Justice Gill said gender representation in the judiciary had improved considerably. Women accounted for about 70% of those enrolled in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and around 65% in several other High Courts, she said, describing the trend as a sign of progress.
While acknowledging the systemic barriers that women continue to face in professional spheres, Justice Gill urged them not to let such challenges constrain their ambitions and encouraged them to break new ground in their chosen fields.
On the challenges faced by first-generation lawyers, she said the legal profession had its own difficulties, but sustained dedication and perseverance would eventually lead to success.
Speaking about competitive examinations such as the UPSC Civil Services examination, Justice Gill said law graduates could make effective civil servants as their legal training would help in policy implementation and maintaining law and order.
Later, she presided over the University General Council meeting. The visit concluded with Vice-Chancellor D. Surya Prakash Rao felicitating Justice Gill. Registrar-in-Charge Viswachandra Nath Madasu, Academic Director Soma Bhattacharya and other faculty members were present.
