100 baby kits distributed to mothers, newborns at Paderu hospital
District Collector T. Nishanthi, on Wednesday, stressed the need for greater attention to maternal and newborn health. She distributed 100 baby kits to mothers and newborns at the Government Mother and Child Hospital here.
The kits contain items such as a baby bed with a mosquito net, gloves, hand and foot care products, feeding nipples, cleaning brushes, baby soap and cream, among other essentials for newborn care.
Ms. Nishanthi advised mothers to maintain a clean environment for newborns and ensure proper breastfeeding, nutrition and timely medical care. Pregnant women and lactating mothers were advised to undergo regular health check-ups, follow medical advice and take nutritious food.
She also urged parents to ensure that children receive vaccinations according to the government’s recommended immunisation schedule.
During her visit, hospital staff brought to the Collector’s notice the shortage of nursing personnel at the facility. Ms. Nishanthi immediately spoke to Regional Director Dr. Radha Rani over the phone and directed her to initiate steps to recruit the required nursing staff at the earliest.
The Collector instructed health officials to ensure adequate staffing so that mothers and newborns could receive uninterrupted medical attention and monitoring.
Ms. Nishanthi appreciated the services of doctors, nurses, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and other frontline healthcare personnel involved in maternal and child healthcare.
Government Medical College Principal Dr. B. Venkateswarlu; Government General Hospital (GGH) Deputy Superintendent Dr. Errayya; Additional DM&HO Dr. Balamuralikrishna; GGH HOD Dr. Narasimha Rao; NTR Aarogyasri Coordinator Dr. David; and other doctors and healthcare personnel attended the programme.
The District Administration appealed to mothers and families to prioritise maternal and newborn health through regular medical care, breastfeeding, adequate nutrition and timely vaccination.
