AMTZ boosts India’s Cath Lab manufacturing
In a significant boost to India’s medical technology manufacturing sector, Innvolution Healthcare Private Limited (IHPL) has secured a manufacturing licence from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for its cardiac catheterisation laboratory (Cath Lab) facility at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam.
The facility, inaugurated recently by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, marks a major step towards expanding indigenous production of advanced cardiac imaging systems, a segment that has long been dominated by imported equipment.
The licence comes at a time when India is witnessing a growing burden of cardiovascular diseases. Nearly three million people die every year from heart-related ailments, while an estimated 80 million are living with cardiovascular conditions. Despite the rising demand for specialised treatment, the country has only around 4,000 operational Cath Labs, limiting access to advanced cardiac care in many regions.
Healthcare experts believe that domestic manufacturing of Cath Lab systems will make advanced cardiac treatment more affordable by reducing hospitals’ dependence on costly imported equipment. Increased local production is also expected to improve access to life-saving interventions, particularly in Tier-II and Tier-III cities.
The cardiac care segment has emerged as one of the fastest-growing sectors in India’s medical devices industry. Globally, the market for Cath Lab equipment and consumables is projected to grow from about $30-32 billion in 2026 to nearly $50-55 billion over the next decade, driven by rising demand for cardiovascular diagnostics and interventional procedures.
Officials said the new manufacturing facility is expected to strengthen India’s medical device supply chain, create skilled employment opportunities, reduce import dependence and enhance the country’s position as a global hub for advanced medical technology.
Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and Founder-CEO of AMTZ, described the CDSCO approval as another milestone in India’s growing MedTech ecosystem.
“At AMTZ, we remain committed to enabling world-class innovation and manufacturing that positions India as a global leader in advanced medical technologies,” he said.
IHPL Managing Director Gaurav Agarwal said the ecosystem at AMTZ had played a crucial role in establishing the facility.
“The infrastructure and support available at AMTZ have enabled us to establish our Cath Lab manufacturing facility. We remain committed to delivering reliable, high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of India’s healthcare sector,” he said.
