‘Cockroach Janata Party’ Trend Reflects Youth Unemployment Concerns: Palla
Andhra Pradesh TDP president and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao has said the viral “Cockroach Janata Party” trend on social media should be understood as a sign of growing frustration among young people over unemployment and economic insecurity, rather than being viewed solely through a political lens.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Rao said anxiety surrounding jobs, competitive examinations, and uncertain career prospects was contributing to emotional distress among youth. He argued that democratic governments must respond to such public sentiment with empathy and accountability instead of dismissing it outright.
Rao said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had consistently prioritised employment generation, investment, and long-term economic growth through policies aimed at expanding industry and attracting global capital.
“The NDA governments are implementing structured policies aimed at creating jobs through Digital India, industrial expansion, start-up promotion, manufacturing growth, and investment mobilisation,” he said.
The TDP leader said the online campaign should also prompt policymakers to reassess public expectations and ensure that the aspirations of young people were being translated into meaningful opportunities.
At the same time, he warned against the misuse of social media platforms and said authorities should remain alert to the possibility of hostile external actors attempting to shape online narratives.
Rao added that criticism and expressions of dissatisfaction should not automatically be labelled anti-national, arguing that a healthy democracy must distinguish between genuine public sentiment and malicious interference.
He also accused opposition parties of attempting to politicise youth frustration for electoral advantage, saying that reducing unemployment concerns to partisan propaganda would ultimately weaken democratic values.
