GVMC sets Sept. 15 deadline for Vizag summit works

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg has directed officials to complete all major development, infrastructure and beautification works in the city by September 15, ahead of the International Partnership Summit in November.

Mr Garg reviewed the summit arrangements with engineering and zonal officials through a video conference on Thursday. He said a regional summit may also be held in the city in the second week of October and asked officials to complete urgent works well in advance.

Officials were directed to repair potholes and damaged roads and take up new roads wherever required. Special focus was laid on the RK Beach-Bheemunipatnam stretch, connectivity roads, drainage and UGD, street lighting, footpaths, fountains, greenery, electric poles, wall paintings and bus bays.

The Commissioner also stressed uninterrupted sanitation and asked officials to ensure that garbage does not accumulate on major roads, junctions and tourist spots. Additional Commissioner (Public Health) P. Nallanayya was directed to prevent sewage and waste from entering the sea along Beach Road.

Nippon Koei India Pvt Ltd presented proposals for developing major junctions. Mr Garg called for scientific junction designs based on traffic and road safety, besides green islands, more greenery and CCTV cameras.

He asked Zonal Commissioners and engineering officials to personally monitor the works and ensure timely completion without compromising quality.

Meanwhile, Additional Commissioner P.M. Satyaveni directed officials to complete Street Vendor Zone works by August 25, with essential infrastructure, sanitation, electricity, water supply and CCTV facilities.
