MP Sribharat donates furniture worth ₹1 crore to IIIT Srikakulam
Visakhapatnam Member of Parliament and GITAM University President M. Sribharat has donated furniture worth nearly ₹1 crore to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT)-IIIT Srikakulam campus, bolstering infrastructure at the institution.
Vice-Chancellor of (RGUKT)-IIIT Prof. Maddali Lakshmi Narayana Rao said the donation comprised auditorium chairs, classroom furniture, and dining hall tables. The furniture would strengthen campus infrastructure and improve learning facilities, particularly for students from rural areas, he said.
Mr. Sribharat visited the campus on Thursday and began the programme by planting a sapling on the auditorium premises. He later reviewed ongoing infrastructure works, inspected hostel accommodation, dining facilities, and other student amenities, and interacted with university officials to assess the progress of development projects.
During his interaction with engineering students, Mr. Sribharat highlighted the importance of quality education, academic excellence, and skill development in building successful careers. He urged students to make the best use of the opportunities available on the campus and remain committed to their academic pursuits.
The MP later participated in an interactive session with students, during which he discussed higher education, career planning, and skill development, besides responding to their queries.
Registrar Prof. Amarendra Kumar said the government was taking measures to strengthen the university’s infrastructure and academic standards. Director Prof. Giridhar Madras said Mr. Sribharat had responded promptly to the university’s request for support and had continued to extend assistance for the institution’s development.
Administrative Officer Dr. Sivaramakrishna, Finance Officer Dr. Vasu, Dean Dr. Sivaramasastri, Dr. Muni Ramakrishna, Dr. Mohan Krishna Chowdary, Welfare Deans Dr. Prakash Rao and Yogeshwari, department coordinators, faculty members, and students were present.
