RINL Observes National Fire Service Day

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) on Tuesday observed National Fire Service Day at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), marking the commencement of the CISF Fire Service Week celebrations, which will continue till April 20. The observance highlighted the importance of fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and safety awareness in industrial workplaces.

The programme began with floral tributes and a two-minute silence in memory of fire service personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Special homage was also paid to those who lost their lives in the 1944 Bombay Dock explosion, one of the most tragic fire disasters in the country’s history.

Speaking on the occasion, RINL Director (Projects) Arun Kanti Bagchi lauded the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for effectively discharging its twin responsibilities of industrial security and fire protection at the steel plant. He said the force has been playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety of employees, infrastructure, and critical operations within the plant.

He stressed that regular fire safety audits, mock drills, and preventive measures are vital to minimise risks in industrial operations and to maintain a safe working environment. He called upon employees to remain vigilant and actively participate in safety initiatives.

CISF Commandant at VSP, Jitender Babu Duvvada, said the week-long awareness drive aims to educate employees of the steel plant, their family members, and schoolchildren from nearby areas on fire safety practices and emergency response measures. He noted that awareness at the community level is equally important in preventing accidents and saving lives.

As part of the initiative, dignitaries released leaflets and booklets containing information on fire prevention, safety protocols, and the proper use of fire extinguishers. Various awareness programmes, demonstrations, and interactive sessions are scheduled during the week.

Senior officials, including Director (Personnel) Rakesh Nandan Sahay and Deputy Commandant (Fire) Naveen Kumar, were present on the occasion.
