SCoR steps up crowd management, adds special trains for festival season rush
South Coast Railway (SCoR) has stepped up crowd management and operational arrangements at railway stations and on trains in view of the expected increase in passenger traffic during the Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath festival season.
SCoR General Manager Sandeep Mathur reviewed the arrangements with the Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs) and Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) of all divisions on Tuesday.
Mr. Mathur directed the divisions to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and security at stations and other passenger areas. He also instructed officials to strengthen ticketing and passenger assistance facilities and ensure the timely dissemination of real-time information on train services.
The General Manager emphasised the need for regular monitoring of passenger amenities and adequate arrangements for drinking water and catering services, particularly at stations likely to witness heavy passenger footfall.
To meet the additional demand during the holiday period, SCoR is operating special trains to various destinations. Existing weekly and long-distance services have also been augmented with additional coaches.
Appeal for safe travel
The railway administration has appealed to passengers to exercise caution and follow safety regulations during the festive rush.
Passengers have been advised against footboard travel and crossing railway tracks. They have also been cautioned against boarding trains from the non-platform side and pulling the alarm chain except in genuine emergencies.
The administration has further advised passengers not to occupy coaches earmarked for women and Divyangjan passengers.
Railway officials said passenger cooperation in following safety instructions and directions issued by railway staff would be essential to ensure orderly movement and safe travel during the festival season.
