Vijayasai Reddy fires salvo at YSRCP, alleges conspiracy against him
Former YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP V. Vijayasai Reddy on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the party leadership, alleging that State coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, in collusion with some Uttarandhra leaders, had orchestrated a campaign to tarnish his image by making “baseless” allegations of land encroachment and extortion.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Vijayasai Reddy said the allegations were levelled against him when he was serving as the YSRCP’s Uttarandhra regional coordinator, and they eventually created a wedge between him and former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
He said the episode ultimately led him to distance himself from the party, and he blamed Mr. Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy’s style of functioning for what he described as the YSRCP’s present political decline.
Rejecting the allegations of land grabbing and extortion, Mr. Vijayasai Reddy said he owned no property in Visakhapatnam apart from a single flat.
“All I have in Visakhapatnam is one flat. I do not own even a single piece of land,” he said.
The former MP also denied any connection to the expansion of pharmaceutical companies belonging to the Aurobindo Group in Uttarandhra.
He said his daughter had married into a family associated with the Aurobindo Group, but pointed out that the group had established nine pharmaceutical companies in Uttarandhra nearly 25 years ago, long before her marriage, and that its subsequent expansion was purely a business activity.
Mr. Vijayasai Reddy claimed that despite holding a key position in the YSRCP, he had no role in major decision-making in the State government or the Chief Minister’s Office during the party’s 2019-24 tenure.
He said the party had relied heavily on him before coming to power but sidelined him after forming the government, with his responsibilities largely restricted to managing party affairs in New Delhi.
Recalling the 2021 Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections, he said he had spent his own money and treated the election as a personal challenge and a responsibility to the party.
He challenged the local YSRCP leadership to prove its electoral strength in the forthcoming local body elections.
“The local YSRCP leaders threw me out by making baseless allegations. They have only faked their love for the party. That is why they are suffering,” he alleged.
Mr. Vijayasai Reddy said his proposed political party would place Uttarandhra’s development at the centre of its agenda.
Among the key proposals, he said, would be the establishment of an Uttarandhra Regional Development Authority (URDA) to address persistent regional issues such as migration, water shortages and the problems confronting people in Uddanam.
He also alleged that religious conversions had increased in certain Agency areas of Alluri Sitharama Raju district during the previous YSRCP government.
Mr. Vijayasai Reddy announced that he would soon launch a padayatra across Uttarandhra, marking the next phase of his proposed political journey.
