Vizag holds Ambedkar tribute run at R.K. Beach
A 3-km ‘Samarasata Marathon’ was organised on R.K. Beach Road on Sunday as part of the 135th birth anniversary week celebrations of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, drawing enthusiastic participation from runners across different age groups.
The run commenced near the Ambedkar statue close to the Sea Harrier Museum. Participants moved along the beachfront stretch up to the Kali Mata temple and then returned to the starting point, completing the circular route amid early morning activity on the coastal road.
The event was organised under the aegis of the BJP SC Morcha. BJP State president Panathala Suresh attended as the chief guest, along with BJP Visakhapatnam district president M.M.N. Parasurama Raju and several party leaders and cadre members.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Suresh said the marathon carried the message “Harmony in our breath, nationalism in our stride”. He said the initiative aimed to promote social equality, unity and national integration, and highlighted that participants ran together without any distinction of caste or religion.
He added that such programmes help reinforce Ambedkar’s vision of an inclusive society and urged the youth to imbibe his principles in public life and nation-building efforts.
Organisers said the response reflected strong public interest in community-driven events that combine fitness with social messaging. At the conclusion of the run, winners in the men’s and women’s categories were felicitated with prizes and trophies.
