Women’s hackathon draws strong response from engineering students
The Visakhapatnam South Zone round of the national-level, women-only hackathon Women Who Master 2026 received an enthusiastic response from women engineering students from across the region at Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya College of Engineering (Autonomous) here on Saturday.
The full-day event was organised by Aspire For Her in collaboration with Logitech and Prajna Resources Pvt. Ltd. It also featured an official attempt to set a Guinness World Records title.
Students from several prominent institutions, including Andhra University, GITAM, KL University, Aditya College, Sri Vishnu Women’s College, Gayatri College, Sri Vasavi Engineering College and Vignan, participated in the competition. Wild-card entries further expanded participation, providing aspiring women technologists with an opportunity to showcase their skills and innovative ideas.
The hackathon focused on artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and entrepreneurship. Working in teams under the guidance of mentors, participants addressed real-world problem statements and presented their technical solutions before an expert jury. An on-site multiple-choice question (MCQ) assessment was also conducted to evaluate their technical aptitude.
G. Madhu Kumar, Secretary and Correspondent of Dr. Lankapalli Bullayya Colleges, and Prof. D. Deepak Chowdary, Principal of the Engineering College, said such initiatives were important for encouraging technical proficiency, creative thinking and practical problem-solving among young women.
The programme was coordinated by D. Bhujanga Rao, Coordinator of the Skill Development Centre (SDC).
The top-performing teams will qualify for the grand finale, which will be held at Logitech headquarters in Chennai. At the finale, the teams will work on a fresh problem statement under the direct mentorship of industry professionals.
The winners will receive cash prizes of ₹1 lakh, ₹75,000 and ₹50,000, respectively, along with official certificates and opportunities to pursue promising careers in the technology sector.
