HSL and Sankar Foundation Host Free Eye Screening in Parvatipuram Manyam
Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL), in collaboration with Sankar Foundation, organized a free eye screening camp today at Vandua village in Veeraghattam mandal. The event saw a large turnout from local and nearby communities, highlighting the growing need for healthcare in rural areas.
The camp was inaugurated by Srinivasa Rao, Chief General Manager and Chairman of CSR at HSL, who emphasized the importance of supporting local communities. He was joined by V. Ramesh Kumar, Deputy General Manager of Sankar Foundation, along with local leaders and community representatives, whose presence underscored the event’s significance in addressing regional healthcare challenges.
As part of HSL’s CSR program, the camp aimed to provide essential eye care to underserved populations. A team of medical professionals from Sankar Foundation conducted eye tests for over 250 people.
Following the screenings, 70 patients were referred for surgeries at Sankar Foundation’s main hospital in Naidutota, Visakhapatnam, a facility renowned for its high-quality eye care, especially in rural areas.
In addition to the surgeries, around 150 patients received eyeglasses customized to their prescriptions. This immediate support improved the vision and quality of life for many who otherwise couldn’t afford such care.
Bangar Raju, Deputy General Manager (PR & Liaison) at Sankar Foundation, highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Collective Efforts, Inclusive Development). He stressed that the camp plays a key role in improving healthcare access in rural districts, ensuring no one is left behind.
“We are proud to contribute to this effort, which not only helps people see better but also supports the development of rural communities,” said Bangar Raju.
Local leaders and Sankar Foundation team members, including Appalaraju, Senior Manager, Eswar Rao, Senior Manager, and Ramu, ensured the camp’s success through coordination and patient care.
This initiative demonstrates the power of corporate-social partnerships in meeting the needs of marginalized communities. It also paves the way for HSL to continue organizing similar health camps and welfare activities in the future. Both HSL and Sankar Foundation remain committed to improving the lives of underserved populations and offering hope to those with limited access to basic healthcare.
