Collector Orders Probe After Bribery Allegations at KGH

King George Hospital (KGH) has faced fresh criticism after allegations emerged that staff demanded money from patients’ attendants, just a day after controversy over the alleged delay in providing an ambulance to a tribal family to transport a body.

The latest claims surfaced during a surprise inspection by the District Collector, M.N. Harendhira Prasad, who ordered an inquiry after some attendants told him they had been asked to pay money by certain staff members.

The Collector toured several departments, including the Emergency Department, Burns Ward and the Plastic Surgery unit, and spoke directly with patients and their relatives about the services being provided and any problems they were facing.

Taking serious note of the allegations, Mr Prasad instructed the hospital superintendent to conduct a probe and warned of strict action against anyone found guilty. He said such practices would not be tolerated, urging families not to pay any money and to report any demands immediately to the authorities.

He also directed hospital officials to prominently display boards stating that treatment at KGH is free of cost and that patients should not pay anyone for medical services.

KGH Superintendent I. Vani, Administrative Officer B.V. Ramana, heads of departments and other senior officials accompanied the Collector during the visit.
