Vizag Showcases Smart Mobility Vision at Moscow Transport Summit
Visakhapatnam’s ambitious urban transformation agenda received international attention as Member of Parliament M. Sribharat presented the city’s development initiatives and the Andhra Pradesh government’s vision for its future at the fifth International Transport Summit in Moscow, Russia. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Commissioner Ketan Garg accompanied him.
In a significant outcome of the summit, the GVMC signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the Government of Moscow to strengthen collaboration in urban transport and smart city development. Following the signing, Mr. Sribharat and Mr. Garg met Moscow Deputy Mayor and Head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development, Maksim Liksutov, and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation.
Addressing the summit, Mr. Sribharat said the Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is committed to transforming Visakhapatnam into a world-class city. He said the agreement with the Government of Moscow would facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices in smart mobility, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), electric mobility, traffic management, and digital transformation.
Mr. Garg briefed the international delegates on several flagship initiatives being implemented by the GVMC, including Project SARTHI, the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), the eRT transport system, the development of signal-free junctions, road widening and other infrastructure projects, digital civic services, technology-enabled monitoring of drinking water supply, online issuance of birth and death certificates, smart vending zones, working women’s hostels, and other urban development initiatives.
Mr. Liksutov said the partnership with India, particularly Visakhapatnam, would strengthen long-term cooperation in knowledge exchange, electric mobility, Intelligent Transport Systems, traffic management, and industrial collaboration.
