GVMC verdict a mandate for development and peace, says MP Sribharat
The victory of the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) elections reflects people’s desire for development, peace and better governance, Visakhapatnam MP Mathukumilli Sribharat said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference at the TDP office, Sribharat thanked voters for giving the alliance a decisive mandate. He said the results had strengthened the development drive in Andhra Pradesh under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
He commended alliance leaders and workers for their coordinated campaign. Though the alliance lost a few wards by narrow margins, he said it respected the people’s verdict, adding that victories and defeats were part of democracy.
Sribharat expressed satisfaction that the alliance had won the Mayor’s post in a direct election after nearly 37 years, and hoped newly elected Mayor Mukka Sravani would fulfil the people’s aspirations. The alliance, he said, would focus on urban development, public welfare, infrastructure and peace in the city.
North MLA Vishnukumar Raju said the election showed the commitment of public representatives to safeguarding democracy. MLA Vamsi Krishna Srinivas Yadav said voters had rejected the YSR Congress Party’s campaign and chosen the alliance’s development agenda.
Government Whip Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao, TDP Visakhapatnam Parliamentary constituency president Chode Pattabhiram, NTR Vaidya Seva Trust vice-chairman Seethamraju Sudhakar, and TDP general secretary Lodagala Krishna were present.
