YSRCP seeks judicial probe into GVMC engineer’s death
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has held the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government responsible for the death of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) superintendent engineer Govinda Rao and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident.
Addressing the media on Friday, YSRCP Employees and Pensioners Division president Nalamaru Chandrasekhar alleged that Govinda Rao collapsed and died during a review meeting in which he was allegedly humiliated by TDP leader and Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram.
Chandrasekhar claimed there was no necessity for Pattabhiram to convene such a review meeting. He further alleged that the chairman behaved rudely even as the engineer was explaining issues raised during the discussion. Comparing the alleged behaviour to the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s “arrogance” during the earlier Janmabhoomi meetings, Chandrasekhar said the ruling party leaders were following the same approach.
Demanding immediate action, Chandrasekhar called for Pattabhiram to be removed from his post, holding him responsible for the circumstances that led to Govinda Rao’s death.
He also referred to recent suicide cases involving a tahsildar and a gram panchayat member, claiming they ended their lives after alleged harassment by TDP workers. He said these incidents reflected the “high-handedness” of the TDP-led government.
Chandrasekhar further alleged that employees were facing political interference in transfers and postings and cautioned that there was an attempt to award the garbage removal contract to individuals close to the ruling party.
