Visakhapatnam sees push for dealer-point vehicle registration system
Automobile dealers, customers, and transport sector observers in Visakhapatnam have urged the Andhra Pradesh government to introduce a dealer-point vehicle registration system like Telangana. They say it will simplify procedures and reduce visits to the Regional Transport Authority offices.
In Telangana, authorised showrooms complete permanent registration for new vehicles. Buyers do not need to visit RTA offices. The system covers new two-wheelers and cars but excludes commercial vehicles.
Dealers submit applications online with key documents. These include the invoice, Forms 21 and 22, insurance details, address proof, and vehicle photographs. Transport officials verify the applications digitally. After approval, they issue the registration number. The department then sends the Registration Certificate to the owner by post.
Automobile dealers in Visakhapatnam say the system will improve customer convenience. A senior dealer said showroom-based registration saves time. He added that standardised digital submissions reduce documentation errors.
Customers also support the move. A recent car buyer said pre-delivery registration would remove the need to take leave from work for RTA visits. A two-wheeler buyer said a single-point showroom process feels more organised and less stressful.
A former transport official said pre-processed digital applications can reduce the workload at RTA offices. Faster and uniform verification allows staff to focus on scrutiny instead of crowd management.
Industry observers note that Telangana rolled out the system in phases. The State developed dedicated software, ran a pilot, and issued clear guidelines. They believe Andhra Pradesh can speed up administrative reform through a similar structured rollout.
Vehicle sales are rising in Visakhapatnam. Stakeholders say dealer-point registration will smooth the purchase process. They also expect better transparency and efficiency in transport services.
