MGM Healthcare Leads Massive CPR Training Drive
In one of the largest coordinated community life-saving drives held in the region, MGM Healthcare Group trained over 770 citizens in Basic Life Support (BLS) techniques across 77 locations in Visakhapatnam, Chennai, and Madurai on Republic Day.
The initiative, organised by MGM Healthcare Seven Hills, focused on equipping members of the public with essential first-response skills such as CPR, choking management, and awareness of using Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). The programme was conducted under the hospital group’s CSR initiative, “One Nation. One Skill. Infinite Lives,” and featured hands-on sessions led by certified clinicians and trainers.
The drive comes at a time when India is witnessing a rise in sudden cardiac arrests, including among younger adults. Recent data indicates that over 25 per cent of heart attacks occur in people under 40, while 15 to 20 per cent of cases are reported among those below 50. Despite this, bystander CPR rates in the country remain low, widening the gap between the onset of a cardiac emergency and timely medical intervention.
Training sessions were held in public spaces, educational institutions, corporate parks, and residential communities in Visakhapatnam and select outstation districts. Participants were issued certificates upon completion of the programme. Trainers involved in the initiative were later felicitated by the hospital group.
“Every minute matters in a medical emergency. Through this Republic Day initiative, we aimed to ensure that citizens across communities gain the confidence and skills needed to save lives before medical help arrives,” said Dr Raghavendra, Deputy Medical Superintendent, MGM Seven Hills Hospital.
Dr Giri Babu Nadella, Chief Operating Officer, MGM Seven Hills Hospital, said, “Saving a life is not just a medical skill but a shared civic responsibility. By training communities at scale, we are strengthening India’s emergency preparedness beyond hospital walls.”
