Amaravati preparing for AI–quantum future, says Palla Srinivasa Rao

Telugu Desam Party State president Palla Srinivasa Rao on Saturday said Andhra Pradesh was preparing for a future driven by artificial intelligence and quantum computing under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

In a statement, he said the next generation would grow up in a technological ecosystem powered largely by AI and quantum technologies. The State government, he said, had begun taking steps to ensure that Andhra Pradesh remained competitive in the emerging technological landscape.

Mr. Rao said history showed that societies that failed to adapt to technological change gradually lost relevance, while those that anticipated shifts early shaped global progress. Countries that embraced earlier transformations, such as the agricultural, industrial, and information technology revolutions, gained lasting influence, he observed.

Referring to the rise of Quantum Computing, he said the world was entering another major technological transition. In this context, the proposed Quantum Valley in Amaravati was aimed at positioning India at the forefront of emerging technological competition.

Recalling Mr. Naidu’s role in establishing HITEC City in Hyderabad, Mr. Rao said the initiative had helped lay the foundation for India’s IT growth. The proposed Amaravati Quantum Valley, he added, represented a similar forward-looking step to position Andhra Pradesh in the next phase of technological transformation.

Mr. Rao said the initiative reflected cooperation between the Centre and the State. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and IT Minister Nara Lokesh for supporting the effort.

He said Mr. Lokesh’s interactions with global technology firms during the World Economic Forum in January 2025 had helped build momentum for the project. Companies such as IBM and Google were among those approached for collaboration.

A key milestone was reached on February 7 when Mr. Naidu and Union Minister Jitendra Singh laid the foundation stone for the Amaravati Quantum Valley facility at Uddandarayunipalem.

The centre is being developed with participation from companies including Tata Consultancy Services, IBM, and Larsen & Toubro. It is expected to house India’s first 133-qubit quantum computer, with construction targeted for completion by August and operations scheduled for December.

Mr. Rao said the initiative would create opportunities for students and professionals in advanced technology sectors and help reduce brain drain from the State. Nearly 54,000 students had already enrolled in quantum technology training programmes, he said.

He added that Medha Towers had emerged as a centre for international technology firms. Nearly 30 companies, including QClairvoyance, Qubits, Cybranex, Quantum AI Global, Qubitech, and Quanfluence, had begun operations there.

Explaining the significance of the technology, Mr. Rao said quantum computers use qubits instead of binary bits, enabling them to perform complex calculations at much higher speeds. Such capabilities could transform fields such as drug discovery, cybersecurity, and advanced research, he added.

He said the development of Quantum Valley could help Amaravati emerge as a global knowledge hub and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s innovation-driven economy.
