Vizag Metro Study to Finish in Two Months: Narayana
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) P. Narayana said the proposed Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project is currently under examination by the Central government, with a consultancy firm conducting a detailed study. The process is expected to be completed within the next two months, after which steps will be taken to expedite the project with a target of completing the metro system within three years.
Addressing the media during a regional workshop held under the Urban Investment Window (UWIN) programme in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, Mr. Narayana said the government is also planning a semi-ring road for the city on the lines of the Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad.
The proposed corridor, stretching from Rambilli to Bhogapuram, is currently under examination by the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA). The minister said a road proposed earlier in the master plan had faced hurdles due to issues related to forest land. However, the matter was resolved after discussions with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.
Referring to housing projects initiated during the previous government, Mr. Narayana said several works had been delayed. More than 20,000 houses remained incomplete and were at various stages of construction. The present government has restarted the projects and is taking steps to ensure their speedy completion.
“Construction is currently under way on thousands of houses, and the government has set a target of completing about 2.60 lakh houses by the end of June,” the minister said.
