Iranian sisters in Vizag seek aid after losing family contact
Two sisters from Iran, currently pursuing a D.Pharmacy internship in the city, have approached the district administration seeking urgent financial assistance after losing contact with their family members in their home country amid an ongoing crisis.
Soolmaz Mohammadi and Zenab Mohammadi met District Revenue Officer (DRO) Visweswara Naidu and submitted a representation outlining their difficulties. According to their plea, the sisters arrived in Visakhapatnam in May 2025 from Hana, Iran, along with their three children, to undertake an internship at a college affiliated with Andhra University as part of their academic programme.
Speaking to the media, Zenab Mohammadi said their family has been severely impacted by recent developments in their region, leading to a complete breakdown in communication. She said her husband has been unreachable for the past 15 days, while they have had no contact with their father for over a week, raising concerns about their safety and well-being.
With communication and financial channels disrupted, the sisters said they have not received any monetary support from their family, leaving them in a difficult situation. They added that they are struggling to manage essential expenses, including college fees, house rent, and daily needs for their children.
The sisters further informed the authorities that their internship is scheduled to conclude on June 1. Given the uncertainty surrounding their situation, they appealed to the government to provide immediate financial relief and facilitate their safe return to Iran, if possible.
Responding to their representation, the DRO assured them that the district administration would examine their case and extend all possible assistance at the earliest.
