MP Sribharat launches rooftop solar units in Visakhapatnam

In a push to promote clean energy adoption, Member of Parliament M. Sribharat on Tuesday inaugurated rooftop solar installations at the residences of two beneficiaries under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in Visakhapatnam. MLA Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu and other leaders accompanied him.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Sribharat urged SC and ST families to make full use of the initiative introduced by the NDA government at the Centre. He said free solar panels of up to 2 kilowatts were being provided under the scheme, enabling households to generate around 200 to 300 units of electricity every month.

He said the initiative would substantially reduce electricity expenses for families while also contributing to environmental protection. The MP called upon citizens to adopt solar energy to help bridge the gap between electricity demand and supply.

Meanwhile, Mr Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu, District Collector M. Abhishikt Kishore, and APEPDCL CMD Prithvi Tej participated in solar power plant installations at Chinna Waltair and Relli Veedhi.

On the occasion, Mr Prithvi Tej said 3,595 beneficiaries had been identified in Visakhapatnam district, and solar plants with a total capacity of 7.19 megawatts had been allotted. He said ₹41.35 crore was being spent on the initiative.

He added that the solar plants have a lifespan of 25 years and would reduce the burden of electricity bills while delivering long-term environmental benefits.
