GVMC launches STEP-UP exposure visits for municipal school students
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched a student exposure initiative titled STEP-UP (Students Empowerment Programme – Upgradation Through Functional Literacy for Municipal Schools) to enhance awareness and provide experiential learning opportunities for government school students.
As part of the programme, GVMC organised exposure visits for municipal school students to various institutions, including banks, government offices, and the PM Boxy Container Terminal.
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the initiative is aimed at providing students with practical exposure to real-world systems in banking, governance, and industry. The programme is being conducted in coordination with Additional Commissioner P.M. Satya Veni and UCD Deputy Project Officer G. Nagarjuna Rao.
Students of K.N.M. Girls High School visited the State Bank of India (SBI), Maharani Peta branch, the GVMC East Zone office, and the PM Boxy Container Terminal. Eighth-grade students were also taken to the SBI Siripuram branch and the GVMC East Zone office, where officials explained the functioning of the banking system and the process of issuing various certificates by the civic body.
At the SBI Siripuram branch, the GVMC Commissioner interacted with the students and enquired about their learning experience. He said such visits help bridge classroom learning with practical, real-world understanding.
One group was led by Additional Commissioner P.M. Satya Veni (ADC-General), who guided students through various administrative processes. Another group of ninth-grade students visited the SBI Maharani Peta branch and Visakhapatnam Port Terminal under the supervision of Deputy Project Officer G. Nagarjuna Rao, who explained operational procedures at the facilities.
Students described the visit as a valuable learning experience that provided them with direct exposure to real-world systems. Teachers and the headmistress of K.N.M. Girls High School expressed gratitude to GVMC officials for facilitating the programme.
In all, 135 students and 10 teachers participated in the exposure visits.
