In a major enforcement drive aimed at improving road discipline, the City Traffic Police registered 2,430 e-challans across Visakhapatnam on April 16, 2026, as part of intensified action against traffic violations.
The traffic department said the rising number of vehicles in the city has been contributing to frequent violations and an increased risk of road accidents. Officials added that sustained enforcement is being carried out at key junctions to regulate traffic flow and improve compliance with road safety norms.
Helmet violations topped the list, with 1,137 cases booked against riders and 222 cases against pillion riders for not wearing protective headgear. Other offences included 82 cases of triple riding, 220 cases of overspeeding detected through interceptor vehicles, 28 cases of mobile phone use while driving, 15 cases of driving without a licence, and three cases involving minor drivers.
Police also booked 112 cases of wrong parking and towed 68 vehicles from unauthorised parking spots. A total of 35 cases were registered for drunk driving, while 43 vehicles were seized during the drive. As many as 547 cases were booked for other violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
In coordination with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), officials conducted joint inspections of 20 private and RTC buses to check compliance with safety regulations.
In drunk driving cases, 22 offenders were produced before the magistrate and fined a total of ₹2.20 lakh.
Traffic police said strict action would continue against bike racing, rash driving, and the use of modified silencers in the city.
Officials urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, stating that road safety is a shared responsibility. They cautioned that even minor negligence can result in serious accidents and stressed the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts for personal safety.
