Visakhapatnam Police Bust Property Crime Ring, Arrest 83
The city police have arrested 83 offenders allegedly involved in a series of property-related crimes during March 2026 and recovered stolen property worth ₹67.54 lakh, officials said.
Addressing the monthly Crime Mela, Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi said 77 property offence cases were reported across the city last month. Of these, special teams using technical investigation methods detected 67 cases.
He said the arrested accused were involved in offences including house burglaries, snatching, thefts, and vehicle-related crimes.
“The teams successfully apprehended 83 offenders linked to these 67 detected cases. Property worth ₹67.54 lakh was recovered,” the Commissioner said.
The recovered items include 926 grams of gold, 3,520 grams of silver, and ₹4.77 lakh in cash. In addition, police also traced and recovered 303 missing mobile phones valued at around ₹45 lakh. With this, the total value of recovered property stands at approximately ₹1.12 crore.
Category-wise, the detected cases include five house breakings during the day, 19 house breakings at night, seven snatching incidents, 13 motorcycle thefts, one auto theft case, and 22 general theft cases.
As part of preventive policing measures, 656 CCTV cameras were installed across the city in March alone. Police also conducted 333 crime awareness programmes and stepped up surveillance in crime-prone areas through intensified patrolling and drone monitoring in isolated pockets, Bagchi added.
