600g Bladder Stone Removed, Patient Relieved After Months of Pain
Doctors at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU) in Visakhapatnam have successfully removed a massive 600-gram stone from the urinary bladder of a 42-year-old man, along with multiple smaller stones, bringing an end to months of severe pain and discomfort.
The patient, identified as G. Raju, had a long history of kidney stone disease and had undergone major surgical interventions in 2019, doctors said. Despite earlier treatments, his symptoms gradually worsened, leading to persistent pain, difficulty in urination, and declining quality of life. With his condition becoming increasingly unmanageable, he approached AINU Visakhapatnam for specialised care.
After a comprehensive clinical evaluation, including advanced imaging and a CT scan, doctors detected an unusually large bladder stone weighing around 600 grams, accompanied by several smaller calculi.
A team of specialists, led by Managing Director and senior consultant urologist Dr. G. Ravindra Varma, performed an open surgical procedure to remove the stones. The surgery was completed successfully without complications, hospital sources said.
Doctors noted that such large bladder stones are rare and usually develop over time due to untreated urinary issues or recurrent stone disease. They advised people to seek timely medical attention for symptoms such as pain, burning sensation during urination, or recurrent infections to avoid severe complications.
The patient is currently recovering well and is expected to resume normal activities soon, doctors added.
