BC Commission Reviews Local Body Reservations, Seeks Inputs
The Chairperson of the BC Dedicated Commission, retired IAS officer Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, visited the district on Thursday as part of a detailed review of reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in rural and urban local bodies.
The visit is part of the Commission’s wider exercise to examine the existing reservation framework and gather feedback from stakeholders across districts before finalising its recommendations.
As part of the programme, the Commission held an interaction meeting at the Collectorate with District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore, Additional Director of the BC Welfare Department Chandrasekhar, senior officials, leaders of various BC communities, and representatives of several associations.
During the meeting, the Commission sought views on the implementation of BC reservations in local governance bodies, including concerns related to representation, execution gaps, and community-specific issues. Officials also briefed the Commission on district-wise implementation and administrative aspects of reservation policies.
Leaders of BC associations and members of the public actively participated in the discussions and submitted memoranda highlighting their demands and suggestions. These included calls for improved representation in local bodies, better implementation of reservation benefits, and policy changes to ensure broader inclusion.
The Commission took note of all representations and assured that they would be carefully examined as part of its statewide assessment. Officials said inputs collected from various districts would play a key role in shaping the final recommendations on BC reservations in rural and urban local bodies.
